UMFK Early College Nursing Pathway

Overview

The University of Maine at Fort Kent (UMFK) Nursing early college pathway will put you on the right track if you are interested in pursuing a traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program through UMFK, and will prepare you for a valuable career you can take anywhere! All courses in this pathway count towards a Traditional BSN Nursing degree plan at UMFK.

Required for Pathway

  • NUR 101: Foundations of Professional Nursing (3 Credits / no prerequisite required)
  • PSY 100: Introduction to Psychology (3 Credits / no prerequisite required)
  • COM 200: Speech I (3 Credits / no prerequisite required)
  • HTY 102: US History I (3 Credits / no prerequisite required)

Further Exploration (optional)

Optional additional courses that would still count within UMFK’s Nursing degree plans.

  • BIO 220: Anatomy & Physiology I (4 Credits with lab / no prerequisite required)
  • BIO 221: Anatomy & Physiology II (4 Credits with lab / no prerequisite required)
  • CHY 100: Chemistry I (4 Credits with lab / no prerequisite required)
  • MAT 251: Statistics I (3 Credits with lab / no prerequisite required, and high school algebra proficiency is encouraged)
  • PSY 308: Life Span Human Development (3 Credits with lab / Prerequisite: PSY 100: Introduction to Psychology required)

The UMFK Early College Nursing Pathway may lead to programs in a variety of majors including the following:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Online RN to BSN
  • LPN to BSN
  • RN to Nursing Administration or Nursing Education

Modality

  • This pathway can be completed fully online, but in-person course options are also available.
  • This pathway can include concurrent enrollment course attendance at your high school.

Type of Pathway

Self-Directed: Self-Directed pathways are student-driven and do not require pre-registration meetings with an early college staff member. However, if you need assistance, please contact umfk.earlycollege@maine.edu.
