Destination: UMFK

Before arranging your flight and arriving on campus, you need to submit or obtain some necessary documents:

  • I-20 VISA: International students need a Form I-20, also known as a Certificate of Eligibility (COE), to study in the United States.
  • Immunization Records: All students, domestic and International, must have two series of MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) and a Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) administered within the last 10 years. This is a Maine state CDC requirement, and non-compliance can affect your VISA status. Please upload your immunization records to the UMS portal here: [UMS Immunization Portal.].   • Driving in the US (optional): If you have a valid driver’s license in your country and wish to drive, you must obtain an International Driver’s Permit (IDP) and a driver’s license from your home country. You must get your IDP in your home country before arriving in the United States.
  • Housing: All First-Year students are required to live on campus unless you qualify for an exemption. The exemption for can be found here: [ First Year Residence Requirement Exemption Request Form]
  • Register for Classes: All incoming students are required to be enrolled in classes prior to moving into the residence halls. Please reach out to your advisor for assistance.

Once you’ve secured all the necessary documents, you can arrange your flight to Maine. The closest airport to UMFK is the Presque Isle International Airport (airport code: PQI), located an hour’s drive south of UMFK. The second closest airport is the Bangor International airport (airport code: BGR), located three hours’ drive south of UMFK. After you arrive, you’ll need to arrange travel from the airport to Fort Kent.

  • New and incoming students: Free
  • Returning students: Flat rate of $10 from Presque Isle and $20 from Bangor (charged to your account)

If you require a different date or time, it will be your responsibility to make the necessary arrangements.

Regional taxi services are available to bring students from PQI to Fort Kent. Uber and Lyft ride-sharing services are also options in the area, but availability cannot be guaranteed at your arrival time. Therefore, it’s recommended that you make the necessary arrangements ahead of time for your transportation to Fort Kent. When contacting any of these companies, ensure they know your destination is the University of Maine at Fort Kent (if living on campus) so they can accurately price your fare.
